Are you finding it difficult to pinpoint why you feel you may need to seek out psychiatric care?
Here are a few general diagnoses we work with that may help you define what you’re experiencing:
Anxiety
Anxiety can range from mild to severe and generally involves excessive worry, nervousness, fear, or apprehension.
Depression
Depression is a mood disorder that is associated with persistent feelings of sadness and loss of interest in daily activities. Depression can be diagnosed if symptoms have been persistent for at least two weeks.
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a mental health condition that's triggered by a terrifying event — either experiencing it or witnessing it. Symptoms may include flashbacks, nightmares and severe anxiety, as well as uncontrollable thoughts about the event.
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) involves either obsessions, compulsions, or both together. Obsessions are recurrent, intrusive thoughts that are often irrational and compulsions are behaviors that you do repetitively such as washing hands many times daily, or checking locks multiple times before leaving home.
Bipolar Disorder
Bipolar Disorder involves erratic and drastic changes in mood, energy levels, and sleep patterns. Some people may also experience psychosis, which includes paranoia, hallucinations, and delusions.
Schizophrenia
Schizophrenia involves hallucinations and paranoid thoughts, confused speech, lack of motivation and a decline in self care
Other experiences for which some receive help through psychiatric services include:
Difficulty adjusting to major life changes
Constant worry
Severe or chronic stress
Constant negative thoughts
A low mood that does not seem to improve
Obsessive thinking
Addiction or addictive behaviors
Suicidal thoughts
Self-harming behaviors
